ACE's CoSy® compiler development system adopted for compiler generation for Adelante™ Technologies' DSP Processor families

ACE Press Release

Paris, France 5 March, 2002

CoSy flexibility expected to boost productivity and code generation quality for next-generation DSP processor products

Adding to an internationally expanding customer base, ACE Associated Compiler Experts bv announced that Adelante Technologies has chosen to utilize ACE's CoSy compiler development system in the development of C compilers for its Saturn DSP Core™ processor families. CoSy is a commercial development system that allows compiler developers to generate production-quality compilers for a wide range of languages and targets.

Adelante selected CoSy for two key reasons. The first is the flexibility and open framework environment that the system provides for compiler development. Through its use of generators, CoSy significantly reduces compiler development time while increasing code quality, enabling the Adelante compiler experts to focus on specific optimizations to achieve high performance levels, as recent benchmarks have demonstrated. Adelante's second critical factor for selecting CoSy is the DSP-C capability it offers. With the standard 'C' language extended to address critical DSP nuances, the application code compiled by the CoSy generated compiler is more easily portable as well as better performing.

"Flexible architectures require a new, smarter breed of tools for development, in order to provide the ultimate product for system designers," said Rob Woudsma, Adelante's chief technical officer. "We believe that our product offering is enhanced through offering a high quality C compiler in the Saturn DSP Core package. Plus, ACE's DSP-C offers generational portability while maintaining the integrity of the code."

"Compiler development is tricky at any stage of the design process, but ACE has created a modular, open environment that rivals the quality of tedious hand-coding in a fraction of the time," said Rob Kurver, managing director of ACE Associated Compiler Experts. "Our commitment to DSP-C has also been a boon to customers. We are excited that Adelante has selected CoSy for its advanced architecture development and we look forward to a long term relationship."

Adelante expects to be in production with the new compilers by Q2 of 2002.
