CoSy® addresses compiler development for new and challenging architectures

ACE Associated Compiler Experts bv is now shipping the Summer 1999 release of its premier product, the CoSy compiler development system. This new CoSy release focuses on achieving maximum performance for today's complex, flexible architectures with significant instruction-level parallelism, such as high-end DSPs and VLIWs.

The new version of CoSy includes several improvements to the code generator, such as: memory disambiguation in the scheduler to optimize independent memory accesses; improved support for dedicated registers; and more powerful instruction dependency specification. Combined, these enhancements to CoSy provide an automatic way to address nuances in compiler code that previously could only be achieved through handcrafted assembly code. Customers are able to reach market faster with a better product and at less cost.

CoSy now features extensive loop optimizations, focused around a new loop annotation. Compilers generated with this support perform better on computation-intensive (signal processing) code, using hardware loop instructions where available.

This new release also features improved integration with debuggers and IDEs, especially when using the ELF/DWARF object file and debug format.

"CoSy allows developers to target new technologies and develop performing compilers in-house and in shorter timeframes," said Marco Roodzant, vice president of marketing and sales for ACE. "With the advent of more complicated DSP technologies, the capability to develop compilers in-house affords the opportunity to tweak hardware and software together to get the best performance for the application."

The CoSy Summer 1999 release is currently available for Solaris, HP-UX, Linux and Windows platforms. Pricing begins at $250,000.

ACE Associated Compiler Experts bv (a wholly owned subsidiary of ACE Associated Computer Experts bv, Amsterdam, The Netherlands) is a world leader in the production of compiler development tools. Its open CoSy compiler development platform gives compiler developers the ability to achieve a similar leading edge position in the construction of better and faster optimizing compilers for architectures ranging from 4-bit DSPs to 256-bit VLIW processors. CoSy also supports a wide range of programming languages including C, Fortran and Java.
